Jovanie Mogene, the little girl from Haiti who was buried in the rubble of a collapsed building in Haiti, alongside the body of her mother, following the earthquake. She was brought to the US last week under Rotary’s Gift of Life program.
The Music for Heart Foundation, a project of the Conejo Valley Rotary Club, will host the annual “Night of Hope” gala on Sat., May 22 at the Calabasas Inn, 23500 Park Sorrento.
Thrust Worldwide LLC is making plans for the 2nd Annual Live For Life. The money raised goes to sponsor life-saving surgeries for children through the Gift of Live Foundation, which facilitates free medical services to children from around the world.

Members for OUR Mexican Pediatric Cardiovascular surgical team are here as well, hagain volunteering their time and skills to fix the broken little hearts of these impoverished children as they do, throughout the year in Mexico. Our team this week is being lead by Rotarian Humberto Rodriguez, MD, a Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgeon, who is certainly among the worldʼs best.
Chiapas is one of the poorest states in Mexico with a population of an estimated 3.4 million people, of which 700,000 are direct descendents of the Mayas. Many of these people live in one room dirt floor, houses constructed of wood slats and mud. Comitan is a small colonial city located approximately 40 miles north of the Guatemalan border high in the Sierra Madre mountain range, at an estimated 7,000 feet above sea level.
On June 25, 2008 Rotarian Humberto Rodriquez-Saldaña, MD was named “Rotarian Of The Year” and recognized with a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary Club of Monterrey, Mexico which he is a member. He was recognized for his incredible humanitarian commitment to the children of the world by giving the Gift of Life.
Our team has completed our first highly successful week of surgery at the Hospital Infantil Regional Universitario Dr. Arturo Grullon in Santiago, Dominican Republic. This mission was organized by International Children’s Heart Foundation located in Memphis, Tennessee and support by several Gift of Life organizations and Rotary Clubs.
