Members for OUR Mexican Pediatric Cardiovascular surgical team are here as well, hagain volunteering their time and skills to fix the broken little hearts of these impoverished children as they do, throughout the year in Mexico. Our team this week is being lead by Rotarian Humberto Rodriguez, MD, a Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgeon, who is certainly among the worldʼs best. He lives in Monterrey! Dr. Armando Guzman our anesthesiologist, who also lives in Monterrey, spent his childhood in Victoria. These physicians not only have incredible skills and knowledge, they are humble, loving and truly care about each child they touch. They continue to enriched my life more and more as the years go by, they are mi amigos.
Chiapas is one of the poorest states in Mexico with a population of an estimated 3.4 million people, of which 700,000 are direct descendents of the Mayas. Many of these people live in one room dirt floor, houses constructed of wood slats and mud. Comitan is a small colonial city located approximately 40 miles north of the Guatemalan border high in the Sierra Madre mountain range, at an estimated 7,000 feet above sea level.
On June 25, 2008 Rotarian Humberto Rodriquez-Saldaña, MD was named “Rotarian Of The Year” and recognized with a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary Club of Monterrey, Mexico which he is a member. He was recognized for his incredible humanitarian commitment to the children of the world by giving the Gift of Life.
Our team has completed our first highly successful week of surgery at the Hospital Infantil Regional Universitario Dr.
Arturo Grullon in Santiago, Dominican Republic. This mission was organized by International Children’s Heart Foundation located in Memphis, Tennessee and support by several Gift of Life organizations and Rotary Clubs.
The Rotary District 7230 Gift of Life Foundation held it's annual Crusade of the Heart Fundraising event on February 4, 2010.

In a traditional dance they performed before an audience of surgeons and the Rotarian fraternity, among other organisations present, the girls wore tops but the boys wore no shirts. And the long vertical scars on each of their chests clearly showing the mark left behind by the surgeon’s blades were bared for all to see. These were survivors of heart surgeries. The children danced and recited poems in gratitude to the different partners that worked together to save their lives.
Our MG project implementation function of donating ambulance to National Heart Institute, New Delhi on 24th October 2009 at 11 a.m. (Saturday) at NHI premises has been postponed.
